JAMES KAY
Born 1821 Glasgow, Lanarshire, Scotland
As our family line goes back in time, we have less and less information. What we know of James KAY (1821), father to James KAY(1860) who was father to my mother's father John Black KAY(1909), is of his occupation and death. |
James Kay was married to Catherine Tomlinson 15 July 1847. Their marriage date was obtained from the birth record of their daughter, Agnes KAY (b. 1855) and microfilm of parish records.
James was a mason journeyman (stonemason). He died on 7 December 1869, just about 1 yr after his last child was born -Charles, born 16 May 1869. The cause of his death was listed as consumption (probably emphysema due to accumulation of stone dust in his lungs). He was living in the District of Tradeston, Kinning Park at the time.
He appears with his wife (Catherine Tomlinson) and children in the 1861 census living at 8 Melville St in Govan Parish, Glasgow. He is 39 yrs old and a Mason.
