James Kay's history is from families recorded notes, they were saved on our Roots Magic program. The records and Information were gathered by Yvonne KAY Marshall (Grand daughter to James Kay)
Just an FYI - Some information from the older version didn't transfer into the newer version, therefore I combined the two manually
He first appears in the 1861 Scottish census living at 8 Melville St., in the district of Tradeston, Govan Parish with his parents James KAY and Catherine Tomlinson and three older children, William (10), Agnes (5), and Margaret (3).
In the 1871 census he appears as the oldest child (10 yrs) left at home with Christina (8), Mary (4), and Charles (1). His mother is listed as a widow.
In the 1881 census James (now 20) and his brother Charles (11), are living with a Charles and Mary Ann BURNETT and their three adult children at 13 Thistle St. in Govan Parish. James' occupation is listed as 'Mason'. (I wonder if somehow Charles or Mary Ann are related to James KAY?)
James immigrated to the US in 1886 when he was about 26 yrs old and settled in Colorado where he worked as a miner. (Information found on the 1900 Rock Springs census). He filed application of Intention to become an America n Citizen 2 Feb 1889 while living in Colorado.
He moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1891. My grandmother, Margaret Young, moved there to be with her parents in 1993 after the death of her first husband, Robert Blyth.
James was converted to the Church and was baptized by William A. Stringer at Rock Springs, Wyoming. He was confirmed by John Young, (Margaret Young's brother) 27 Feb 1898 and he and Margaret were married in Aug of 1898. They were married in the Logan Temple. He was 37 yrs old.

*Note – See information regarding temple ordinances below.
He was a stone mason and helped construct buildings in Rock Springs Wyoming and Ogden, Utah. He also helped run a grocery store with his broth-in-law, John Young, in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
He served a Mission for (LDS Church) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1914 to 1916. Many interesting missionary experiences are recorded in his missionary journal. His wife Margaret helped run the family grocery store in Rock Springs, Wyoming to support the family while he was gone.
He suffered from 'consumption' but died of a heart attack suddenly; he was 64 yrs old.

*It was not a temple sealing. Margaret was already sealed to Robert BLYTH. However, I (Yvonne KAY Marshall) had him also sealed to Margaret in 1990. It's up to Margaret now.
Margaret had James sealed to his parents after his death. He was also ordained a High Priest 26 Oct 1913 by Charles C Richards

I'd like to also thank Diane Wintch, for her help in getting this web page up. I appreciated her advise on how to work with pictures, although I'm still learning of course. She has a beautiful genealogy website, www.dianneelizabeth.com/index.html - Dianne Elizabeth's Family History - and has done much in the field of genealogy and website design.
