I think he may have died in 1866 in reading his son's (Jame's Kay b. 1821 death cert. it said under his father John Kay died of consumption duration 3 years??) just a thought John was listed as a Mason Journeyman on son James' death record

married between 1810 and 1820 in Of Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Margaret GRAY1 was born between 1790
and 1793 in Of Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She died before 1869 at the age

'not living' on son James' death record
John KAY and Margaret GRAY had the

48 in Kinning Park, Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland. James was a mason
journeyman-he died of "consumption"

James Kay (born 1821) information on death certificate states that his
occupation was mason journeyman. He died of "consumption" of 3 years
duration. Death accured at 10 P.M. @ 40 Vermont St., Kinning Park. Certificates
was signed by William Kay - his son
